My Prayers

Mom and Dad gave me a tape on the Rosary. When I was a kid Mom and Dad always tried to pray the Rosary as a family, an d I hated praying the Rosary. It was long and repetitious.  As I got older it was up to me to join Mom and Dad praying the Rosary. Sometimes I didn’t join them and I felt so guilty so the next time I did.

When I started to live by myself I sometimes prayed a decade of the Rosary, but after that it became harder. I found with the tape I could listen to it, and if my mind wondered, the tape would bring me back to refocus on the Rosary. I also found the Rosary a meditation on Jesus’ life. Once I understood this, I started to say the Rosary daily, and I found it was a beautiful prayer. Sometimes I had a cup tea while I was praying the Rosary.

I truly believe praying is a conversation with God Praying is talking to my best friend. If I am patient, God always answers my prayers. The rosary is not a prayer to Mary, the Rosary is asking Mary to pray for us. She is our mother in Heaven close to her son our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Rosary is not a long boring prayer.  It is a meditation on Jesus’ life. Once I understood this it became a beautiful prayer for me and it helped me to understand Jesus’ life and God’s will. Also the rosary is another tool to get close to God like the Bible. I try to pray a rosary almost every day. If I forget to prayer a rosary I feel like I forgot to pray.

The Rosary is made up of four mysteries: Joyful Mystery, Sorrowful Mystery, Luminous Mystery, and Glorious Mystery. On different days we say different Mysteries. The Joyful Mystery we will say on Mondays and Saturdays. The Glorious Mysteries we will say on Sundays and Wednesdays. The Sorrowful Mysteries we will say on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Luminous Mysteries we say on Thursdays.

Each Mystery has five decades.  Each decade we say an Our Father and ten Hail Marys. First we start off with the Sign of the Cross. Then we say the Apostles Creed and an Our Father followed by 3 Hail Marys. After that we say five decades of  the Holy Rosary. We follow with a Glory Be to the The Father and the  Fatima Prayer. After we say five decades we pray Hail Holy Queen and Concluding prayer. We end with the Sign of the Cross.

The Joyful Mysteries have 5 mysteries (decades).  The first mystery is The Annunciation - Mary said “Yes” to God to be Mother of God’s son Jesus. The second is The Visitation - Mary went to help her cousin Elizabeth who was pregnant with John the Baptist.   The third mystery is The Nativity of Christ, Jesus’s birth.  The forth mystery is The Presentation. The fifth mystery is the finding of the Christ Child in the Temple.

The Glorious Mysteries have 5 decades.  The first mystery is The Resurrection – Jesus rises from the dead. The second is The Ascension – Jesus rises up into Heaven.  The third mystery is The Decent of Holy Spirit on the Apostles. The forth mystery is The Assumption – Mary died and went to Heaven. The fifth mystery is The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.

The Luminous Mysteries have 5 mysteries (decades).  The first mystery is The Baptism of Jesus. The second mystery is The Wedding at Cana –Jesus turned water into wine at the request of his mother Mary. The Third mystery is Proclaiming the Kingdom of God - Jesus went all over to tell the good news. The forth mystery is The Transfiguration. The fifth mystery is the Institution of The Eucharist.

The Sorrowful Mysteries have 5 decadesThe first mystery is The Agony in the Garden. The second mystery is The Scourging at The Pillar – Mortification of our senses. The third mystery is The Crowning with Thorns. The forth mystery is The Carrying of the Cross. The fifth mystery is the Crucifixion.

15 promises of praying the Holy Rosary:

  1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.
  2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
  3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
  4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
  5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
  6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying Himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise Him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
  7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
  8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
  9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
  10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
  11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
  12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
  13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.
  14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
  15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

I have an app for the Rosary on my Ipad.  It helps me with praying the rosary when I listen to it.  It is hard for me to use Rosary beads because my hands are too spastic.

I try to pray the rosary two times a day, after lunch and at night. Sometimes my mind wonders so I pray two Rosaries 2 times a day. While I am praying I am thinking the life of Jesus.  By praying the Rosary I grow closer to Jesus and his Mother Mary. Sometime I fall asleep. I heard if you fall to sleep while praying the Angel would finish off for you.

The Rosary helps me to calm my mind down. Another prayer that helps me to calm down is when I repeat Jesus’ name over and over. Or I pray “Come Holy Spirit into my heart. Enter the dark places of my heart and shine your light into the darker places. Light my heart on fire.”

I also pray the Litanies at night. It is on the Rosary app. I put it on when I am going to bed. It is about 35 minutes long. I lay in bed listen to it. Some nights I fall asleep but I enjoy it.

I often pray the Divine Mercy before bed.  It is also on the Rosary app. This prayer takes about10 to 15 minutes. It is a peaceful prayer.
I try to watch the daily mass at 10 pm on EWTN a few times a week. I often fall asleep and wake up when the mass is over.

It is time to learn to want to spend time in prayer. Jesus wants to be our friend.   If we want to get know Jesus, we need to spend time with him, in prayer throughout the day.

What is The Eucharist And Why It is so Important To Me?

Growing up with the Catholic faith was very special for me. Each time I received the Eucharist it changed me in some way.  Every time Christ entered me through the Eucharist, Jesus healed me in some way and gave me the strength to carry my crosses. The healing I received was not physical healing (But Jesus could heal me physically) but it was spiritual healing. Most of the time I did not know that I was being healed.  Jesus healed me through the Eucharist by forgiving my sins.

At the last supper, Jesus turned bread into his body and wine into his blood.  And he told his disciples to do this in memory of him. The disciples passed it on through the centuries to the priests. When the Priest consecrates the Host it becomes the body of Jesus. We believe when the Priest consecrates the wine it becomes the blood of Jesus. Jesus wants to be with us as he enters our bodies through Holy Communion.

In the 90’s there was mass at 7pm and I tried to go most nights after I got my first car. There were times I didn’t go to receive Holy Communion because my tongue was so spastic. Once I sat at very back of the church. I was not going to receive Holy Communion. The priest walked to the back of the church to give me the Eucharist. I had to say no thanks.  I felt bad that I couldn’t receive the Eucharist and Father Dave had to walk to back of the church.

I tried to sit at the front of the church because I didn’t have to walk too far when I went to receive Holy Communion. On the way back to the bench I put my hand over my mouth so the host wouldn’t fall out. I needed to sit down to swallow the host. If a piece of the Host was on my hands or on my clothes, I looked on the floor. If one little piece of Host falls on the floor, I would put it in my mouth.  Sometimes the Host got stuck on roof of my mouth. It took a few minutes to swallow the Blessed body of Jesus.  I got the Holy Host unstuck by moving my tongue on the roof of my mouth.

Sometimes I didn’t want to go to Holy Communion because I was afraid I might lose the Host but I still went to mass. There was something always drawing me to mass through the years. That was Jesus. Even when I didn’t want to go I went anyway. I sometimes went to church to sit at the back to talk to Jesus. All alone with nobody there for five or ten minutes. It helped to clear my head.

In 2010 I started to receive half of the Host. I was talking to Father Dave and I toldhim I had  a hard time to swallow the host.  He told the others priests.
